HOMEDATATRENDS

A blood pressure monitor error code is a device message, not a blood pressure result. Find the exact brand and model on the monitor before following an error-code explanation.

Find the correct manual first

  1. Write down the complete model number and the code or symbol exactly as displayed.
  2. Open that model's manufacturer manual. Similar-looking monitors can use different codes and cuff requirements.
  3. Match the symbol to its troubleshooting table, then follow that row's instructions. A generic E1–E5 list cannot substitute for the manual.

A model-specific example: Omron M2 HEM-7143-E

The official M2 HEM-7143-E manual links E2 to movement or talking with insufficient cuff inflation. Its troubleshooting table also distinguishes an unplugged air connector, an incorrectly fitted cuff and an air leak. These explanations apply to this model; they are not a universal code map.

E2 appearsRemain still and avoid talking. If it repeats, follow the model's complete troubleshooting instructions or contact Omron support.
Cuff or air-connection problemUse the manual to check the air plug, cuff placement and any visible damage.
Different brand or modelUse its own manual; do not transfer the M2 explanation.

Check setup before retrying

Check battery orientation and the specified power supply, confirm the cuff is the correct size and compatible with the monitor, and inspect the tubing and connector. Follow the manual's positioning and waiting instructions before another measurement. Stop troubleshooting damaged equipment and contact the manufacturer.

Reset instructions vary by device

There is no universal battery-removal interval or reset sequence. Use the exact model's reset procedure, if one is provided. Do not open the casing, improvise a repair or change medication because a monitor displays an error.

When the error keeps returning

Record the code, model number and checks already completed for manufacturer support. Ask about compatible replacement parts, servicing and warranty before buying another monitor. Device age alone is not a diagnosis of failure, and a higher price does not prove that a monitor is accurate.

What an error cannot tell you

An error does not establish whether blood pressure is high, low or normal. This guide covers device troubleshooting and does not interpret readings or symptoms. If there is a medical concern, seek advice from a healthcare professional rather than waiting for the device problem to be fixed.

Cleaning and maintenance

Use the manufacturer's cleaning instructions for the monitor and cuff. Do not assume a cuff is washable or can be immersed. Store the device as directed and keep a note of recurring faults.
